Music Ministry

St. Matthias Music Ministers are, first and foremost, DISCIPLES, and only then are we ministers who share faith, serve the community and express the love of God and neighbor through music.  Our primary goal as St. Matthias Music Ministers is the full, conscious and active participation of our faith community in our worship.

Adult Hand bell Choir

The Adult Hand bell Choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 8:15 until 9:15 PM.
The Hand bell Choir rings at 10 liturgies a year and welcomes parishioners who enjoy music and are interested in learning how to play hand bells. Reading music is a plus not a requirement. Contact Director, Dr. Sandy Licitra,

Youth Hand bell Choir

Our Youth Hand bell Choir welcomes parishioners in GRADES 6 -12 who like music and are interested in learning how to play hand bells. Previous musical experience is a plus not a requirement. The Youth Hand bell rehearses on Tuesdays from 7:15 -8:00 and rings at 10 liturgies a year. Contact Director, Dr. Sandy Licitra,

Children’s Choir

The St. Matthias Children’s Choir introduces the children of our faith community to the rich treasury of Catholic music, traditional and contemporary.  The Children’s Choir welcomes young parishioners, grades 3-8 , registered in our GIFT Religious Ed Program and St. Matthias School.

Tentative Schedule for September 2021:

Rehearsals take place on Thursday afternoons, starting on Thursday Sept. 16, 2021.

3rd and 4th graders rehearse from 3:30-4:00 PM;
5th – 8th graders sing from 4:15 to 4:45 PM.

The Children’s Choir sings at Mass once a month and at other special liturgies during the year and is open to young parishioners registered in our GIFT Religious Ed Program and St. Matthias School. Contact Director Joan Best Seamon.

Umoja Imani Choir

The Umoja Imani (Unity-Faith) Choir is the only Catholic Gospel Choir in the Diocese of Metuchen. Parishioners who enjoy Gospel music, like to sing, and have good voices are most welcome to join.   Our  2021-2022 mass/ rehearsal schedule TBA .. Contact Director Aaron Brown.

Ensemble

The Ensemble is an auditioned double quartet that specializes in a capella signing.  The Ensemble rehearses on Wednesdays as needed at 9:00 PM and usually sings at a Mass or special liturgy once a month.  Contact Director Chris Rath.

10:00 Sunday Mass Choir

The 10:00 Sunday Mass Choir (Adult Choir) sings traditional and contemporary SATB sacred choral music. The choir rehearses on Thursdays from 7:30-9:15 PM and convenes on Sunday morning at 9:30. Parishioners with good voices who like to sing are most welcome to join- reading music is a plus but not a requirement. We especially invite singers with previous choral experience. Folk Group (Saturday 5:00 Mass Choir)

The St. Matthias Folk Group sings traditional and contemporary two-part and SATB sacred music at the Saturday 5:00 Mass. The Folk Group welcomes parishioners who like to sing and have good voices. Reading music is a plus, not a requirement. Skilled instrumentalists are welcome too. The Folk Group rehearses on Wednesdays from 7:30 -9:00 pm and convenes for Saturday Mass at 4:30. Revelation

The Revelation Choir sings Christian Contemporary Praise and Worship music. Revelation welcomes parishioners high-school aged and older who like to sing and have good voices. Reading music is a plus, not a requirement. Skilled Instrumentalists are welcome, too. Our 2021/2022 Mass/rehearsal schedule TBA Contact Director – Jill Szabo.

Cantors

Volunteer Cantors lead our assembly in sung prayer at our weekend liturgies. Our cantor ministry welcomes trained singers who read music and have leadership ability.  Cantors rehearse as needed, before or after choir rehearsals. For more information contact: Joan Best Seamon.
