Danny Kallenberg
Director of Stewardship and Development and minister to junior high school youth:
Danny Kallenberg grew up as an active Protestant, but after years of service and study alongside faithful Catholic brethren, he was joyfully initiated into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, 2008.
After attending community college for two years and dabbling in sports medicine for another, Danny served the homeless as a live-in volunteer with the Franciscans in Chicago. When his service year ended, he returned to school and concentrated his studies in faith and justice. He graduated from the University of Dayton Honor’s Program in May, 2007.
Since then, he has been a research and development intern for the Society of Mary (Marianists) and a cook. Just prior to serving you at St. Matthias, Danny had the opportunity to serve the poor as a kindergarten teacher for two years on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Danny earned his initial alternative teaching certificate through the Teach For America program and now holds a traditional license for grades K-5.
At St. Matthias, Danny spent his first two years on staff leading the charge in cultivating our Jr. High Youth Group. In their gatherings, the kids had opportunities to pray, engage in small group discussions, and have fun being themselves! They also had lots of opportunities to express their faith through works of mercy to and relationships with the homeless, hungry, physically disabled, and elderly of Somerset County. And, of course, they had lots of fun with social events like broomball, cosmic bowling, laser tag, baseball games, concerts, and more!
Additionally, Danny leads three service trips to New Orleans, Haiti, and South Dakota every year and in 2011 he started our Community Sports League for adult men. Danny is now focusing on the ministry of fundraising and will help guide our community in our ongoing stewardship and development efforts.
Danny has been married for almost six years and he has two children, Elena and Isak. His wife, Sandra, grew up right here in Catholic Community of St. Matthias.
